DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) is an official diploma awarded by the French National Ministry of Education to candidates for whom French is a second language in order to certify their level of proficiency in the language.
DELF certificate is recognized worldwide and valid for life — unlike other standardized language tests that are valid only for 2 years.
There are four DELF levels (A1, A2, B1, and B2) and they are based on the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR).

DELF evaluates four areas of language skills : listening, reading, writing, and speaking. The total score consists of 100 points and each of the four skills (sections) is worth 25 points.
To pass the exam, you must score 50 out of 100 points (50%) with a minimum of 5 points from all four sections. For example, if your total score is 70 but you only get 3 out of 25 points from the speaking section, it is considered as a failed result.
With 850 locations in 137 countries, Alliance Française organizes the exam up to 3 times or more per year. You may contact your local Alliance Française for more information on schedule, fee, and ID requirements.
You can take DELF as many times as you want until you pass it. However, you have to wait at least 60 days before re-taking the exam.
